As a six-year-old, Edwin was the sole survivor of a 1982 massacre in his community of Santa Maria Tzeja. He managed to hide among the trees as the army killed his mother, grandmother, three sisters, a brother, and cousins. After living in Mexican refugee camps for 12 years, he returned to Guatemala to finish high school and is now in the final stages of completing a law degree. Edwin will speak about exciting developments in the international legal case against Guatemalan government officials who allegedly ordered the massacre in his village other indigenous communities in the early 1980’s.
